Every year, countless tourists from around the world flock to the ancient city of Khajuraho, a top destination for those seeking to explore the famous Khajuraho tourist place, to marvel at the beauty and architectural brilliance of its 25 magnificent Hindu and Jain temples.

These temples, grouped into Eastern, Western, and Southern clusters based on their location, are renowned for their intricate sculptures and stone carvings. The artwork showcases a variety of themes, from royalty and meditation to spirituality and even erotic art.

In 1986, Khajuraho’s Group of Monuments was proudly recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city’s name, “Khajuraho,” is derived from the word “Khajur,” meaning Date Palm Tree.

Turning Back Time

The temples of Khajuraho date back to between 950 and 1050 AD, built over a span of about 100 years during the rule of the Chandela dynasty. These historic temples are spread across an area of around 20 square kilometers.

Originally, there were over 80 temples, but today, only about 25 have survived the test of time and remain intact.

Devi Jagdamba Temple – The Devi Jagdamba Temple, also known as Jagdambika Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Parvati. The temple is divided into three distinct sections, each adorned with intricate carvings of Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva. At the heart of the temple, you’ll find a beautiful idol of Goddess Jagdamba, making it a serene and spiritually enriching place to visit.

Parsvanath Temple – The Parsvanath Temple is the largest Jain temple in Khajuraho and stands as a testament to exceptional preservation. Its stunning carvings, intricate sculptures, and impressive construction are sure to catch your eye and leave a lasting impression.
